This is the huge concrete sculpture of the late President Ferdinand Marcos at Mt. Pugo, La Union to immortalize himself. The upper half of the 99-foot bust of the late president was destroyed, its eyes, ears and nose blown off.
The construction of a 99-foot concrete bust in own image, situated on a cliff overlooking the South China Sea around 130 km North of Manila where it was erected in the 1970s, allegedly to immortalize the strongman who was toppled in a near bloodless "People Power" revolution in 1986.
The identity of the perpetrators remains unclear. Suspects including left-wing activists, members of a local tribe or possibly looters hunting for one of Marcos' legendary treasure troves.
Imelda Marcos, widow of the former ruler, said in a statement that she was "very sad" to hear of the incident, remarking that the bust was a "loving offering of local residents" to her husband.
The sculpture was built in the early 1980's when Mr Marcos was still in power, but fell into disrepair after he was overthrown in a popular revolt in 1986. He died in exile three years later.
