Poor Indian Carried His Dead Wife for 10km After Hospital Refused to Let them a Ride an Ambulance!

Without the money to hire a vehicle, this grieving Indian man carries his wife's body on his shoulder from the hospital, claiming that he couldn't afford to pay for an ambulance mobile.

Dana Majhi's carried his 42 year old wife Amang Dei, who died from tuberculosis in the district hospital eastern state of Odisha. Dana walked for 6.2 miles (10 kilometers) from hospital to his village.

He was accompanied by his sobbing 12-year-old daughter on his side, his wife's body was wrapped in an old sheets from the hospital bed. The hospital authorities denied his charge. According to them, he took away the body of his wife without informing any hospital staff.

But according to Dana, "I kept pleading with the hospital staff to provide a vehicle to carry my wife's body, but they refused and since I am a poor man and could not hire a private vehicle, I had no choice but to carry her body on my shoulder."

The state of Odisha had launched a special scheme in February to provide a free service to transport bodies from government hospitals, but the service was not reportedly offered to the grieving family.
